A Serrouchen dyed and scored antique leather bag from Morocco.
With inner pockets and the typical castellated edging to the front panel.
I was recently told by a Moroccan academic that these smaller bags were given to young men for their first visit to Mosque to hold a Koran.
The leathers are dyed in red and yellow, with added green edging. There are pen marks on the back of the bag! I purchased it in a roadside remote shop of diverse treasures! Someone there had undertaken a calculation on the back!21.5 cm x 23 cm
A rare and wonderful item. (this is the only smaller Serrouchen bag i have ever seen. The larger versions reach very high prices.)
